Tax Advice For Expats

Expat Tax Advice

Expats with bank accounts held outside of the UK may face investigation by HMRC if their tax affairs are not up to date.

From September 2018, HMRC has increased access to full information about bank accounts and balances held by British expats living outside of the UK. The information allows HMRC to target expats it believes have unpaid tax.

Many expats may be innocently unaware of their tax liabilities back in the UK if they hold bank accounts and assets abroad.

Tax Advice for Expats – Free Initial Consultation – Call us on 0113 387 5670

If you are an expat, it may be the case that you were unaware of your tax liabilities and therefore have unpaid tax either back in the UK, or even in the country in which you now live.

Our team of tax investigations professionals offer a free initial consultation to expats in order to help clarify your tax affairs.

If HMRC suspects that this is the case, and therefore launches an investigation into your affairs, you will face financial penalties if you are found guilty of having unpaid tax.

We can help by clarifying your position, and assisting you in making a voluntary disclosure of any unpaid tax to HMRC.

Common Reporting Standard

The new powers available to HMRC are part of a global information sharing initiative called the Common Reporting Standard (CSR), which will see over 100 countries sharing information about overseas account holders with tax authorities across the world.

The initiative is aimed at reducing tax avoidance and tax evasion across the world.

HMRC will also have access to information on expats living in the UK with bank accounts held offshore.

If you are an expat and feel that you may require some tax advice, you can discuss your circumstances in complete confidence with our team of tax investigations and disclosures professionals.

To arrange your free initial consultation, you can call us on 0113 387 5670, email us at enquiries@forthsonline.co.uk or fill out an Enquiry Form and we will contact you directly.

If you do not pay your tax there are a number of actions HMRC may take in order to recover unpaid tax debt. Depending on the circumstances this could take the form of either a tax investigation or HMRC debt enforcement action.
